BUILDING BRIDGES NOT WALLS

BUILDING BRIDGES NOT WALLS - 3.1 YOUTH EXCHANGE

{AG}Bridges{/AG}

Summary of Project:

Our project will build bridges of friendship, cooperation and understanding between our neighbouring countries, both within and outside of the EU.  These bridges will be our paths to stronger bonds for a stronger Europe and a stronger world together.  Our bridges will be built with understanding and respect of each other, with knowledge of our differences and our similarities, with knowledge of our histories and our futures.  These bridges will be built by our youth using the bricks that are broken from the walls of xenophobia and racism, from discrimination and ignorance.

The project has many aspects to it but the main ideas behind the project are partner building through understanding of the different cultures, religions, government systems and the history of each country.  We are lucky in having so many different countries involved in our project.  This project includes also Eastern Europe countries which are non EU members, but are future members of the EU.  This will allow us to learn from a diverse selection of people through interaction, activities and communication.

We will take an in-depth look at cultures and look at the impact on our lives, look at the differences of these different cultures and religions and see how we can use these to build bridges between our countries to form bonds and unions for a better Europe and a better world. We will look at how each culture perceives gender equality and understand the roots of these thoughts.

Our project will build bonds based on understanding and cooperation with the participants so that we can combat xenophobia and racism through mutual understanding.

We will learn about each other's languages and learn some common phrases and words so that we can communicate with each other in their home tongues.

As Europeans we will express what it means to us to be European citizens and we will learn what our non-European friends understand about European citizenship and we will learn how their citizenships differs from ours and how we can either teach or learn from them.

It is our hope that at the end of this project we will have new friends and partners and ideas for future project together to enhance all our lives and to create a better and stronger Europe.
