Καλημέρa! Τι κάνεις?
February 14th is Valentine’s day. The most famous day of the year to celebrate love! But do you know the story behind Saint Valentine?
Well, let’s dig in!!
Saint valentine used to be an Italian doctor who became a priest. He was sent to jail for performing weddings for couples during a time when new marriages were outlawed in ancient Rome. Before he was killed for refusing to renounce his faith, he sent a loving note to a child he had been helping to teach, Julia, the daughter of his jailer.
Indeed, Emperor Claudius II, wanted to recruit lots of men to be soldiers in his army and thought that marriage would be an obstacle to recruiting new soldiers. He thought that marriage would distract them from their work.
Fun fact: Emperor Claudius II started to like Valentine and was ready to set him free. However the price was to renounce to his faith in God for Romans God. He politely declined that proposition and was killed
As far as I am concerned, Valentine’s day is too commercial. Everyone tries to boost its business for this day. Love is free, it is one of the things that you cannot buy. So, why should I spend money on that day? Furthermore, I think that when you are truly in love, you show it constantly. You don’t need society to impose you, diktats.
In other words, how to celebrate love properly?
Well, I believe that love is more than a simple feeling. Love is an attitude, a lifestyle! I believe that even if you do not get well with somebody you should always spread the love!
We cannot be appreciated by everybody; we all have hypocrites in our environment, but we should be able to love them.
About the other ones: friends, family, boyfriend or girlfriend… create good memories, spend good times with them. Always focus on the positive.
So, Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!
Live, Love, Laugh!!!
See you soon!
