Mid-term training, Nicosia 13/17 July 2019
From 13 to 17th of July 2019 in Europa Plaza Hotel was held the mid term training with all the EVS of Cyprus. The group was a bit larger compared to the one we had during the on arrival training . Volunteers from Italy, Greece, Spain, Sweden, France, & Ireland got together to assess how the EVS experience was going and to start thinking about the future. We were involved in ice-breaking games, creative activities (like creating a motion machine with limited tools), workshops about the youth opportunities, we were provided with information regarding how the projects funded by European Commission are evaluated and the trainers tested our professional attitudes through a career test. The experience was very interesting and multicultural as usual. We were very thankful towards the two trainers Anna and Konstantinos because they were very prepared. During one of the workshop we were involved into, we were asked to form groups and think about the creation of an event that could be appealing for the local community; the ideas that came up were very interesting, such as a beach clean-up, an upcycling workshop in a forrest, a movie about refugees… As most of the volunteers wanted to point out even the things that could have been improved during the projects (and as a lot of ideas could be implemented also in future projects), finally we asked for a meeting with Evangelia, the representative on Cyprus National Agency. All together we had the chance to share our thoughts about the projects, what does not work, what should be avoided and what can actually be enhanced in order to prevent future volunteers to complain about the same issues. Evangelia was very open to discussion and listened to our sharings very carefully. I think that the role of the mid term training is to give you the time to think and rethink about what you have been doing in the last few months as a volunteer and start projecting yourself in the future, when probably you will be back home and you will want to treasure your EVS experience; and personally, the goal was achieved: the activity the river of life in which you have to identify what you left behind before EVS, what you have done so far as an EVS, your expectations about your next months and your objectives after the project was very powerful and inspiring. Thanks to the training, we have learnt the importance of staying active and not being satisfied with an average life; we realised how crucial can be having a path to follow that makes you achieve your personal goals; we understood that living on passion is possible if we want and there are many opportunities to explore ourselves.
Have a good life
