Nicosia Open Market
The Open Market of Nicosia is the most famous farmers’ market in the city.
It is situated in the old city center, along the Venetian Walls and less than 1km away from Ledras Street.
The farmers’ market is open 2 days per week on Wednesday and Saturday, from sunrise to sunset.
The entrance is free for everyone at any time and you can easily get access to the market (there is a parking lot too).
The market itself is not big, there are 4 to 6 lines where you can walk through. On each line you will have on both sides products to buy.
The products on sale, at least on Wednesday, are vegetables, fruit and some legumes.
The prices are very cheap, most of them are cheaper than the ones you can find in the supermarkets and most of the stuff looks very fresh.
The variety of the vegetables and fruit is not so wide though; most of the farmers sell the same products (even if the quality and the prices change according to them).
Just to give you an example, you will mostly find courgettes, potatoes, avocadoes, broccoli, parsley, tomatoes, chickpeas, olives, carrots and some little homemade products.
We didn’t find any special thing though, at least on Wednesday.
Even if it is not a traditional market where you could expect to find very special or local products, overall the place is interesting enough and worth buying ordinary vegs and seasonal fruit because of the cheap prices and good quality.
We hope it was helpful, see you with the next IMAP!
-It is being said that you can find very cheap prices when the end of the day is close, also by negotiating a bit with the sellers, you will surely get a better price!
-Feel free to ask anything to the sellers, they are friendly and most of them speak English.
-Pay with cash only, nobody accepts cards (neither the bar)!
