The tomb of Makedonitissa
During the week when a part of my team was in the mid training, the rest of us went together with our coordinator some places in Cyprus. One of them is The tomb of Makedonitissa, a place full of history. It is a military cemetery that represents from my point of view, the proof of the invasion, but also a memorial for the Greek Cypriots and Greek soldiers that died defending Cyprus during the Turkish invasion in 1974.
Greece tried to help Cyprus and sent an airplane with soldiers, but because of , let’s say, miscommunication, they believed that the airplane was sent by Turkey and they took it down.
Now, the place has its own role of honouring the people who died. A copy of the airplane has been made and if you go visit the cemetery, you can also see the airplane. You can find The tomb of Makedonitissa here.
