Afraid of public speaking? No more!
Opening the “Pandora” box and having a quick look in the past, I might say for sure that I hated having presentations in school and basically, anything that had to do with public speaking. Of course, years passed by and I discovered that no matter how much I hated it, I had to do it. So, step by step, I tried to work on it and to develop my amazing skills in this field. I started to answer more in class, to do more and more presentations and it all worked out somehow because I was able to overcome a little bit my fear of speaking during oral exams. After all, it was good. At least, I thought so.
But somehow I still had inside of me the fear of speaking. Anytime I had to meet someone new, it was quite difficult for me to be open and to communicate with that person. But then again, after many , after many youtube tutorials and videos, let’s say that I managed a little bit to talk more and be more open whenever I met someone new.
Obviously, from all the articles, I guess you were able to make an image about what being an EVS means. We have so many opportunities and the best thing is that from all of them, we develop some skills. During my EVS, I decided to take a risk and say yes to the chance of making theatre. Of course, in my mind ,it would have been something quite simple, I mean, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist, I said to myself. I was expecting some workshops, a little bit of practice and that is pretty much. But when we started the lessons, I discovered that the image that I had in my mind about theatre has nothing in common with the reality.
Of course, when you have to make life decisions you always wonder if you did the right thing or not. And somehow I had some second thoughts at the beginning because I realized that my overcoming fear of public speaking was a big failure.
First lessons have been quite difficult for me because I had to work with my fear. But every lesson passed by, and I started step by step to be more open and to try to show my emotions and, the most important thing, to work with my emotions.
What have I learned and I still learn from theatre? That is maybe the best way of discovering yourself, of overcoming any fears that you might have and to gain confidence in yourself. Would I recommend theatre? For sure! Afraid of public speaking? No more!
