EVS – 4 Months In
EVS – 4 Months In
Two thirds of the way through EVS and I’ve hit the weird point where I’m realising my time left here is getting shorter every day, but we’ve still got a while to go.
Learning to chill and relax is an ability I’ve been able to have and I definitely can’t do it for everything, however in the last month I’ve really felt like I can sit back and enjoy everything. Also I really don’t stress about the stuff that I used to, it’s also partly being more confident in myself and my abilities.
My degrading English.
I know this happens to me when I lie in another country, except my only experience of this is when I live in Germany. My brain flips to German and it’s hard to speak English, but this is fine because my German makes up for this. The problem here is that I don’t have something to take the place of English, my Greek is nowhere near good enough for that and the remaining languages that I can say a few sentences in have been reduced to swearing (although I’m really improving at that in many languages now).
Ok at the time of writing it’s still over 30°C every day, however the temperature at nights has dropped and in the last few weeks have been cool enough to let me sleep the whole night through. Gone (hopefully) are the nights where I wake up five/six sometimes even 10 times a night. The hottest times are past us(hopefully), this is still extreme summer for me but I’m still alive.
The sunset has moved, and can’t be viewed from our apartment’s balcony, which means going to the rooftop for the views, no longer can I sit in my favourite chair, with my feet up, watching the sunsets rainbow. Shame.
So we got on-arrival training in the beginning and last week midterm so we were lucky to go to the mountains to meet new people, do some different activities and reflect on our EVS.
At this point we have still got time left with our activities and projects, but now those of us who finish in December are starting to think to the future and what to do the next. Personally I’ve started planning the few months for when I get back and I have a target for where I want to be in March next year. Many of us are already looking for job/study/other opportunities and many of us have had our minds opened to new ideas or possibilities. I think this will go down as one of best learning experiences of my life. It’s rekindled passions in languages and travel, I’m going to Jordan next month and hope to go to Israel in November. If there’s an opportunity then it’s usually not too hard to follow it and see where it takes you.
Till next time….
