Water Museum Nicosia
Between our apartment and our youth center, there is a museum, Nicosia’s Water Museum. It’s outdoor with free entrance. Of course, it’s not the first choice to visit this museum during the summer because of the opening hours which are from 10:00 – 15:00. It means if you aren’t used to very high temperatures for sure you will suffer. But, if it’s in your way definitely it’s worth to visit it. I would suggest visiting the museum during the autumn or spring.
The museum represents the history of the water in Cyprus, with exhibits of the equipment and the tools that have been used in water supply systems many years ago. ‘The Water Museum of the Nicosia Water Board, tells the story of how our ancestors developed the civilization in Cyprus and creating our solar water system connection from then till now. With a core focus on history and science, the museum is a fantastic space for every visitor to discover and learn first-hand, topics such as; the waterworks from ancient time until today, material uses, states of matter, energy, local history and we can also see some significant memories of the past in pictures.’
The museum consists of three sections :
- The outdoor water museum, surrounded by Cypriotic green flora, includes a windmill, cistern, wells, stone fountains, toboggans, wagons.
- The old workshop, which represents the mechanical way of diverting water.
- The storeroom, which is used now as an event venue for lectures, projections etc. Also, it has a permanent photography exhibition which shows the moments of the life in the past related to the water.
