Bacalhau aka codfish
To start this post we need to go back to 1415 when Portugal start the campaign to conquer the oceans,so they needed food for the long trips, in that time portuguesse people tried to conservate local fish with salt, but the flavour and the durability where not good, soo when portuguesse start to go north they found this fish and they call it “bacalhau” also they found out that “bacalhau” in salt could preserve for more than 3 month, and it didn’t change the flavour of the fish.
That was the begin of a love story between a country and a fish, nowadays we still preserve the “bacalhau” in the same way as our ancestors, and we call it “fiel amigo” that means “faithful friend”.
To be fare I have to metions the vikings, because they were the first to find the “bacalhau” but the way that they conserved consisted by drying it in the sun, and that wasn’t good enough for the long trips in the ocean.
